Location
Located in the mountain/forest terrain of western North Carolina, our nature therapy retreats offer various programs for individuals, groups, and relationship partners designed to provide a supportive environment for addressing and improving overall well-being. Led by a mental health counselor and an ANFT (Association of Nature and Forest Therapy) certified forest therapy guide, our retreats offer a range of therapeutic activities and interventions to promote emotional healing, personal growth, and resilience.
Set against the serene backdrop of mountain landscapes, participants will engage in various activities that harness the healing power of nature. The retreat includes mindfulness meditation, yoga, expressive arts therapy, and either individual, relationship partner or group therapy sessions, all conducted in the calming embrace of the natural surroundings. Individual counseling sessions provide personalized support, while guided forest therapy walks led by the ANFT guide help participants reconnect with nature, fostering a sense of peace and grounding.
Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, is a core component of this retreat, offering significant benefits for mental health. This practice involves immersing oneself in the forest atmosphere, engaging all senses to connect deeply with the natural environment. Benefits of forest bathing include reduced stress levels, lower blood pressure, improved mood, increased focus, and enhanced immune function. These effects are attributed to the natural chemicals released by trees and plants, known as phytoncides, which have been shown to promote relaxation and improve overall well-being.
Participants will also take part in outdoor excursions, exploring the beauty of the mountains through hikes and nature walks, and practice relaxation techniques tailored to reduce stress and anxiety. These activities are designed to encourage a deep connection with the natural world, enhancing the therapeutic process.
The retreat is facilitated by a team of qualified mental health professionals and nature therapy experts who provide continuous guidance, support, and expertise. This immersive experience allows participants to disconnect from their daily routines, immerse themselves in self-care practices, and gain insights into their mental health challenges. Through the retreat, individuals can learn effective coping strategies, develop new skills, and connect with others who share similar experiences. This journey of self-discovery and healing is enriched by the tranquil mountain setting, providing a nurturing environment for growth and resilience.
“Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings.”
